Happy weekend, my friends! The sun is shinning here and I am grateful simply for being alive and seeing this clear blue sky. Summer, like no other season, has the promise of happiness in the air. You can find color everywhere you look, the warm breeze makes you feel free and lighter and you finally can open all the doors and windows and allow this vibrant energy to fill up every room of your house.
When it comes to decorating your home for summer, I really don’t feel the need to spend too much money. In fact, many times, all you need to do is remove some heavy curtains and rugs. Just that will allow your home to feel brighter and happier. One thing I always do around my house is replace the pillows and add more plants to a few places of the home. I feel blessed to live in a place surrounded by nature, but adding fresh flowers and/or faux botanicals can bring a summery feel to your home at any time of the year.
Today, I am continuing a series I started on my Instagram, and this “Home Bunch Top 5” post in particular will encourage you to embrace this season. Summers, especially where we live, are quite short and I feel that we need to take advantage of this beautiful season to reenergize not only our spirit and our body, but also where we live, because all of these factors are closely connected and will result in how we overall feel about our life. So, don’t take any shortcuts when it comes to embracing the purpose of being happier and more fulfilled during this season.
1: Create a Cottage-y Look
You might live far away from the beach but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace that magical coastal cottage-y feel that has everything to do with summer. The best way to make your home feel more like a beach cottage is by adding casual elements complemented by comfortable textures and beautiful colors. Design by @theheartandhaven, including 1st image.

2: Add Pops of Color
You can easily add pops of color to your home in an affordable way. Look for affordable pillow options (so you can change them often), vases of different sizes, light throws and small objects that can be added to your bookshelves. Adding a colorful rug or runner will immediately change the feeling of your space. Design: @briahammelinteriors : @spacecrafting_photography.

3: Lighting
Every interior designer will tell that lighting is the jewelry of a home and changing it is much easier now that you can find beautiful lighting that isn’t pricey. Brass lighting will bring warmth to your home – see how it makes this white kitchen feel – but you can also add beaded chandeliers for an even more summery look. Design: @the_fox_group_ : Scott Davis.

4: Artwork
Even if you’re a big fan of neutral spaces, you can add some color with art. I love using artwork from independent artists not only because they tend to be affordable but also because you’re supporting real people. Shop for new art at your local market and allow your home to display some meaningful and vibrant work. Design: @austarchitect & @claytonbuilders : @ryangarvin.

5: Curb-Appeal
Nothing says more summer than a front porch, right? If you’re lucky enough to have one, you need to make it look and feel as inviting as possible. Add some plants, change your outdoor lighting if yours is looking old or boring, add some rocking chairs or a swing and remember to bring color with outdoor pillows. All you will need after that is margarita! 🙂 Design: @bellsheepstudio : @elizabethlaurenjones.
